The former Finance Minister of the erstwhile Mahama administration, Mr. Seth Terkper has criticized the government for blaming the country’s current economic hardship on the Convid 19 pandemic.
Mr. Terkpe claimed while speaking on the Newsfile show on JoyNews, an Accra-based television station on Saturday, April 2022.
“As I always say about the economy itself, let us stop blaming everything on convid because we had a fiscal gap of five. So the 5% of GDP before COVID. This is something, that suggests maybe as a result of Seegers, oversights, compared to SCC and the arrest, something positive was happening, I would want us to look at some of these mechanisms, which will then report some results.” He asserted.
According to him, the government should rather consider making the state-owned enterprises(SOEs) profitable to generate income to help boost the economy.
“Today Cocobod is making losses, CoCobod had never made losses, their ratings has always been better than that of the sovereign rating in the country as a whole.” Said, Mr. Seth Terkper.
By this Mr. Seth Terkper believes that the government must encourage and ensure that the state-owned enterprises such as the Ghana water company, Electricity Company of Ghana, and COCOBOD are producing profit to help boost the country’s economy.
