Government Declares 2nd And 3rd May As Public Holiday.

The ministry of interior under the auspices of Hon. Ambrose Derry, the sector minister has issued two separate statements informing the public about the upcoming holidays which would be observed on May 2 and May 3 respectively.

Since this year’s workers’ day falls on a weekend, The ministry through one of these statements issued yesterday April 25, 2022, informs the public that Monday, April 2 will be used to observe this year’s Workers’ day and therefore must be observed as a holiday.

“In view of the fact that 1st May 2022 falls on a Sunday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I), by Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601) declared Monday, 2nd May 2022 as an additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
The ministry’s statement read.

May 3 ‘Eid-ul-Fitr’ holiday

The ministry through another statement has declared May 3, 2022, as a national holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr which is to be observed after the Ramadan by Muslims across the globe.

“The public is hereby informed that Tuesday, 3rd May 2022, which marks Eid-ul-Fitr, is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the ministry’s statement read.

Eid-Fitr festival is one of the important festivals in the Islamic calendar and is honored every year to Mark the end of the 30 days of fasting, Ramadan in the holy month of ‘Sawm’.
